Celebrating an Icon
15th October 2011

Many southern Teller residents partook in the 94th birthday celebration of Art Tremayne, one of the last remaining old-time mavericks from the town's pre-gaming and tourist era, at the Cripple Creek Elks Lodge Saturday evening. The occasion was peppered with plenty of stories from locals. Tremayne, who looks anything but 94, has been a key civic leader for decades. He was involved with the city and many community groups, and even was the guardian of the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in recent years. Tremayne and other illustrious former leaders (such as June Hack, Harold Hern and Bill Robinson who have passed away) helped put Cripple Creek on the map as a key Colorado tourist hub.
