Fossil Bed Fire

Florissant: The blaze referred to as the Fossil Bed Fire, in Teller County prompted many calls from local residents. The blaze began last Tuesday March 3rd at approximately 3 pm. The 41 acre fire hit the eastern portion of the park and is an indicator of the fire dangers that are at hand.

All together there were 40 fire fighters and 10 engines that responded to the fire. A small crew remained on the scene for several days to monitor smoldering hot spots. According to a report from Channel 13 in Colorado Springs, the fire was started by a truck backfiring.

Officials have not yet finished their investigation, and the results of the investigation may take some time. This is the first fire that has been recorded at the Fossil Beds in several years. Officials at this time still have not imposed any fire restrictions.
