Saddle Club Finds Higher Ground and other Stories for April 09

Divide: Woodland Park Saddle Club ( April 8th)

An equestrian club established in 1947 and recently displaced from its historic home is negotiating new digs in Divide, according to Kyle Fenner, Executive Director of the Woodland Park Saddle Club. Fenner's presentation of the plan to members of the Divide Chamber of Commerce last week included a rendering of the new clubhouse, and outlining the clubs long range plans, which include a multi-use arena, increased community partnership and a promise to keep the club "undefined" in its potential. But it will take time, since ground breaking on the 40 acre facility could be a year out.

April Snows:

The spring storms that pummeled the Front Range for the month of April delivered a much-needed surge of moisture to the region. During the Storm that took place from April 15 through 18th, caused thousands of customers to lose power in the Denver area. They lost electricity after power lines weighed down by snow tripped system circuit breakers. Some highways were closed and flights canceled.Nearly three feet of snow fell in some areas including Woodland Park and northern Teller County.


Tea Party Demonstration: April 15th

Over 100 residents, anti-tax advocates and curiosity seekers gathered outside Woodland Park City Hall on April 15th to partake in one of 750-plus “tea party” protests organized across the country. The movement, which attempted to revive the spirit of the 1773 Boston Tea Party, commanded national media attention. Similar to other protests, the Woodland gathering had its share of anti-Obama slogans and targeted the administration’s policies. Organized by taxdayteaparty.com the group is planning another rally on July 4th.
